KA-BAR BK-16: simply a great knife
There are various aspects of the BK-16 that make it an all-time great. First and foremost, this is a knife that doesn’t make any design mistakes. The steel of the blade is the right thickness. A flat grind reduces this to a sharp but not too thin edge. The shape of the handle is perfect, invites the hand, offers great control and has no hot spots.
The shape of the blade is both aesthetically pleasing and very useful. It has just enough belly for roll cuts and just the right amount of straight for mincing and slicing.
As soon as it comes out of the box, the BK-16 slices well and yet can still beat wood. Its point of balance is right where the index finger rests on the handle, making it feel agile in the hand. Finally, 1095 steel holds a thread moderately well and sharpens easily.
